Colorado Selects Custom Energy for Statewide Energy Savings Program

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (September 18, 2007) - Custom Energy is proud to announce its selection by the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) as a pre-approved energy services provider under the state’s new energy savings program. Custom Energy will provide comprehensive energy performance-based facility improvement projects to Colorado’s public institutions through a process known as performance contracting. Performance contracting allows public institutions to make facility improvements without upfront capital dollars because the energy services company guarantees that the savings will pay for the upgrades. Custom Energy is one of 11 energy services companies approved under the program.

Governor Ritter has emphasized energy efficiency’s essential role in the New Energy Economy for Colorado and has set important goals for state and public entities to achieve. The Governor’s Energy Office Performance Contracting program will be the primary tool used to reduce the energy consumption of existing state facilities.

“This new program makes it easier for customers, like state agencies or cities to confidently undertake the performance contracting process and eliminates literally months of time spent previously in qualification of each company. Not only will this save significant time upfront on these projects, but these 11 ESCos are now going to bring performance contracting to the next level by encouraging renewable energy technologies such as solar and geothermal projects,” said Tom Plant, direct of GEO.

Since its inception, Custom Energy has worked with public institutions across the United States to create over 300 megawatts and 150 million kilowatt hours of annual energy savings. Based on EPA data, that is the equivalent of conserving over 290,000 barrels of oil or preserving over 1,000 acres of forest from deforestation each year. Custom Energy is accredited by the National Association of Energy Services Companies as an Energy Services Provider.
